  • A college student, Sakurai Hiroki was summoned to another world to defeat the Demon Lord. And since he got “Priest” as a job, his starting Recovery Stat was more than enough to heal any wounds, so he dumped all of his Stat Points into Evasion. In other words, he’s aiming for an Evasion Healer who will never get hit by enemy attacks. But unfortunately, people in that world couldn’t understand his ideal! The King got angry against him and labelled him as useless almost immediately! And thus, the story of how Hiroki become an odd Healer who can even avoid Dungeon Boss’ attacks with ease has started!!

what annoys me about this is that the whole concept of these worlds with “stats” and “screens” and such is that they are supposedly “gamelike” worlds.  Which means that you can’t do what he did.  Anyone who’s ever played a “stat-point-distribution” type game and tried to do this knows if you put 100% of your points in only one stat and have 1’s in every other stat you get a nonsensically unbalanced character which dies very quickly.  sure, you can have one stat better than others, but never 1-1-1-1-max-1-1-1,  games are designed to punish completely unbalanced characters.  maxing out evasion never lets you avoid 100% of attacks in the first place, it might let you avoid 99.9% of attacks - but if you only have 1 hit point every attack on you that does hit is an instakill.  Or there are monsters with attacks that bypass evasion, so your maxed stat is useless.  Or you die form a large AoE attack that inherently can’t be evaded.  Or a bug bites you while you’re asleep and takes your 1 hit point.  The point is: his maxed stat is a gimmick, and in any real game, it would be a crappy gimmick.  It can only work because the author writes around it in a contrived way.  (See tvtropes “This is a job for Aquaman!”)  Which is exactly why the NPCs considered him an idiot for doing it.  Because he was an idiot for doing it.

Well the problem primarily stems from the author’s core idea being so transparent. He wanted a story where a specific type of character does well, so he chose the easiest framework to insert that idea and just ran with whatever was convenient to set up the premise. To call it lazy or contrived are both reasonable critiques, but this is largely indicative of “bulk isekai” in general - isekai fiction is “easy” to write primarily because of these cookie cutter templates where you can take an idea and “slot” it into a convenient setting. The typical counterargument is that “it’s a game, it can be a poorly coded game, with poorly defined mechanics”. Often you’ll see that authors don’t define these mechanics well, precisely so that this defence can work. In a “slow” moving manga like this, this can be particularly aggravating because it takes so long to understand how systems are supposed to work. (Some games for example, tie health to non stat parameters, like level, or achievements, etc. etc.)

The only “saving grace” here is that the MC isn’t (to use a Pokemon example) a pure Ninjask/Shedinja anomaly, where he only has a single crippling overspecialization - rather, he has two, which means technically the author has two “tools” for the MC to work with. The main problem really is that the MC’s character traits are just as ill defined as his “game abilities” - he comes off as an arrogant game otaku…but there’s not much else to him, and because his interactions with everyone else are all either neutral or negative…well there’s no one else to fixate on except our current cardboard MC. I’m sure that many people who have written isekai fiction can sympathize - often the author “sees” much more about their character, but fails to translate it into writing because pacing and exposition are tough to approach - and here we don’t even have all that much worldbuilding. So there’s the dilemma of “which one do I develop first?”

All in all this manga is still in its “start up” phase, so for now I think it’s still worth the several odd minutes it takes to finish up a chapter when it comes out - but if it continues with this trend (especially if the MC just stays as the MC)...well eventually it’ll just be relegated to “bland junk food isekai” status.

he already knows well that healer who put the stat on evasion is unwelcomed, I dunno if he censoreds or didn’t want people to judge him, but why he keeps explaining like that? the same thing over and over until no one wants him? he could easily explain that he already max his recovery stat before he explains his evasion stat couldn’t he?

Author contrivance where he forces the character into an idiocy loop so that he’s basically “forced” to use his OP powers and it “seems” justified (because it’s technically everyone else’s fault that they’re prejudiced, even though realistically it’s entirely the character and the author’s fault.)

Normally this choice is justified by saying “well he’s a modern kid so he’s going to be stubborn, that’s how his character is defined” or “well he’s actually in the right here so this is him standing up for himself”. In reality, because there can’t be any consequences to the MC’s actions (both because of how OP he is and because the isekai genre is typically very safe for the MC), it just comes off as even more contrived.
